It’s Summertime! A Message for Early Recovery

Summertime brings up and out a lot of different things for a lot of people! For some, it’s a time to relax and recharge. For others, it can be more difficult because so many people are out and about enjoying themselves. This can be tough if you’re still in the early stages of your recovery journey. But don’t worry – I’ve got your back! In this blog post, I want to talk specifically to those of you who are feeling challenged this summer. Keep reading for some words of encouragement from me!

Tips for staying sober in the summer heat

1. Make sure you have plenty of activities to keep yourself busy. This may include things like going to the beach, hiking, biking, or swimming. Whatever you enjoy doing, make sure you have a plan so that you’re not bored and tempted to drink.

2. If possible, try to avoid being around people who are drinking. This can be difficult if you have friends or family members who drink, but it’s important to try to stay away from places where you know there will be drinking going on. If you must be around drinkers, make sure you have a plan for how you’ll handle it. You may want to have a non-alcoholic drink in hand, or even leave the area if things get too overwhelming.

– Most importantly, remember that you’re not alone in this. There are millions of people who are struggling with addiction, and many of them have been where you are now.

3. Seek out support from others in recovery, whether it’s through a 12-step program or another group. You don’t have to do this alone!

These tips can help you stay sober in the summer heat, but it’s important to reach out for help if you’re struggling. addiction is a serious disease, and it’s vital to get treatment if you’re struggling with alcoholism or drug addiction.

How to deal with difficult emotions and triggers

When it comes to difficult emotions and triggers, it’s important to remember that many people in early recovery deal with the same challenges.

Here are a few tips on how to deal with them:

1. Acknowledge your feelings. Don’t try to ignore or bottle them up.

2. Talk to someone you trust about what you’re going through. (Talking about your feelings can help you to understand and process them better. It can also be a huge relief to know that you’re not alone in how you’re feeling.)

3. Write down your thoughts and feelings in a journal. Writing can be a helpful way to process your emotions and to get them out of your head.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s also ok to take a break from writing or talking about your feelings. Sometimes, it can be helpful to distract yourself with something else for a little while.

Some other things that can be helpful in managing difficult emotions and triggers are:

  • Exercise
  • Spending time outside
  • Listening to music
  • Spending time with loved ones or friends
  • Doing something creative, like painting or drawing.

Just always remember, you are not alone in this. Reach out for help if you need it. There are people who care about you and want to help you through this tough time. Take care of yourself and be kind to yourself. You are worth it.

Putting your recovery first – even during the summer months!

Many people in early recovery find the summer months difficult. It can be tough to stay on track when there are so many distractions. But it is important to remember that your recovery is the most important thing, and you should always put it first.

The summer can be a time of fun and relaxation, but it’s important to keep your sobriety a priority.

Here are some tips to help you stay on track:

  • Plan ahead. If you know you’ll be attending a barbecue or pool party, bring along some non-alcoholic beverages and snacks. This way, you won’t be tempted to drink if there’s nothing else to drink.
  • Stay busy. Keeping yourself busy can help you avoid triggers and cravings. Plan fun activities with friends and family, or take up a new hobby.
  • Find a support group. If you’re feeling tempted to drink, reach out to your support network. Whether it’s your sponsor, therapist, or sober friends, they can help you stay on track.

If you’re still finding it difficult to handle your early recovery this Summer, Turning Leaves is here to help you through every step of your journey to sobriety! We hope these tips will help you stay on track and reach your goals!
