The Power of YET

Updated: Dec 27, 2022

a man looks up with pointer finger pointing to the word "yet"

Maybe you’re here…

You’ve done it! You’ve taken the first step into healing by sending an email for an hour call. Or you’re a month in. Maybe you’ve hit your 1st year free from drugs and alcohol! Perhaps this is year 8 in recovery from an abusive marriage. Maybe you’re 3 weeks free from disordered eating behavior. Whatever your day brings, I am proud of you!

I want to remind you of the power of the word YET.

Many people in recovery will make statements about things that never happened to them- as if to say how lucky they were, or possibly in an attempt to prove to others their addictions weren’t as bad as others had believed.

Some examples of these statements are:

I didn’t get a DUI.

I didn’t die.

I didn’t crash my car.

I didn’t lose all my money.

I didn’t lose my best friend.

I didn’t lose my house.

I didn’t lose my job.

I want you to find your statements, and place the word YET at the end of them.

I didn’t get a DUI YET.

I didn’t lose my job YET.

I didn't crash my car YET.

And so on…

The power of the word YET brings your efforts of healing and recovery into broad view. YET is a reminder that if we don’t continue to work everyday for our healing, happiness, and wholeness, our YET statements could still become a reality.

Keep up the good, heavy work! It is worth it!
